Mud Cake credits are one understandable unit for the processing work Mud Cake performs across the platform. Small workloads consume fewer credits; larger or more computationally expensive work consumes more. Managed AI activity can also consume credits based on the work performed.
You should not need to understand SQL runtime, infrastructure billing, token accounting, or cloud compute units to understand your Mud Cake bill.
Building is not metered
Browsing datasets, building and editing transformations, viewing lineage and history, and managing users are not credit-consuming actions.
Collaborating is not per person
Invite your whole team. There are no per-seat fees and no license counts to track.
Meaningful processing consumes credits
Transformation execution, data processing and refresh activity, and managed AI operations are the work credits measure.
Usage you can see and control
Credits make usage understandable, so you can see what you are using and set limits around it.
Predictable usage

Different workloads cost different amounts to run. A single unit for processing work is simpler than separate billing for rows, compute, AI tokens, and infrastructure. Credits let one number represent the work Mud Cake performed for you, so you do not need to understand SQL runtime, token accounting, or cloud compute units to understand your bill.
Mud Cake Cloud is hosted and managed by us and includes a monthly pool of credits plus managed AI services. Community Edition is the same software, self-hosted on your own infrastructure, free forever. With Community Edition you supply your own infrastructure and your own AI keys (BYOK) where AI is used.
Business Self-Hosted is a flat $499/month software license. It is not usage-based and there are no per-seat charges. You run Mud Cake inside your own environment, supply your own infrastructure, and supply your own AI credentials where AI is used. There is no Mud Cake platform credit charge for ordinary self-hosted processing.
No. With self-hosted editions you pay your own cloud and AI providers directly. Mud Cake does not charge you for your own infrastructure or your own AI keys. The Mud Cake charge is the software license (flat for Business Self-Hosted, free for Community).
Yes. Enterprise gives you the choice: we host it for you, or you self-host with an enterprise license. Enterprise covers large workloads, negotiated annual credit pools, contractual requirements, SLAs, private networking or deployment needs, custom retention and security, dedicated support, and enterprise procurement. Yes. Customer is the SaaS ownership boundary and tenant is the data-isolation boundary. Cross-tenant selection, lookup, dependency, and execution are prohibited and enforced server-side. See our governance model.
